If any of your questions aren’t answered here, please just give me a shout – I’ll be happy to answer any queries you have.
What happens in the intro call?
During the initial, free telephone call, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, your goals, and my counselling approach. You can ask any questions you have. I view counselling as a collaborative effort, relying on open and honest communication.
Does it matter where I live?
As long as you’re in the UK, I can work with you, no matter where you live.
How do we meet?
I currently use Zoom, a secure online platform recommended for therapeutic sessions by the BACP. You’ll receive an email invitation guiding you through installing the software on your device. Alternatively, if you’d prefer telephone counselling that’s absolutely fine too and I’ll call you on your number.
Can I cancel or rearrange sessions?
Of course – I just ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for rescheduling or cancelling an appointment, otherwise, the full fee will be charged. Please contact me via mobile or email for cancellations.
Will our sessions be confidential?
Absolutely. Our work together is confidential, but if there are concerns regarding your safety or legal obligations, confidentiality may need to be adjusted. However we can have a good chat about this before we begin working together.
How do I pay?
Payments for sessions can be made through bank transfer, and you will receive an email with the necessary bank details if you decide to schedule a session with me.
How long are the sessions and how many will I need?
Each session lasts for 50 minutes. Some clients prefer long-term counselling, while others opt for a shorter length of maybe six to eight sessions. I work in an open-ended way, tailored to each person. We will regularly assess where you’re at, agree any planned endings and you’re absolutely free to end counselling at any time.
Can I speak with you outside of our sessions?
I respect your privacy and the boundaries of our counselling relationship by refraining from following or connecting on social media, or chatting about anything other than appointment scheduling outside of our sessions. I aim to respond to calls or emails regarding session logistics within 24 hours, but I’m not available outside my working hours.
What if I need urgent and immediate help?
In case of mental health or psychological emergencies, dial 999 or go to your local A&E hospital to see the Crisis Team. You may also contact the Samaritans at 116 123 for 24-hour support.
